about me

Preston Cottrell

I have always enjoyed wandering. Everywhere I have lived, I have encountered different people and different environments. This sense of exploration undoubtedly affects my art. I love trying new mediums, different color schemes, and uncovering new resources for direction. Inspiration comes from traditional art venues, historical references, nature, or even just walking around my neighborhood. Despite the subject matter, I often focus on memory and recollection. I also explore the interplay of simplicity and nuance. Stylistically, my work traverses a mixture of technical/architectural, minimalistic, and expressionistic aesthetic threads. As I get older, and since becoming a father, the rituals and artifacts of life have served as important stabilizing markers for my curiosity. I create images that are not just intriguing to me, but spark connection to the lives of others. From a beautiful custom portrait to a locally-sourced inspiration, these images can ground our emotions. In all of my designs, I love to celebrate form, texture, and meaning.

I am glad you came to my work, either intentionally or not. I would love to partner on a specific idea or help you find the artistic project that fits well for what you need. Do not hesitate to reach out with questions or inquiries.

Cheers!
